From Mrs. Askew’s Science Lab

The lab results are in…

First grade students concluded their unit on pollution and recycling.  We discussed Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.  We completed a bar graph recording CA’s recycling of milk jugs, cans, newspapers, and bottles.

Second graders began their unit on simple machines.  We created our own pulleys, observed wheel and axle, and made a ramp.

Third grade students began their study of weather and discussed the troposphere, where weather takes place.  We demonstrated air pressure and its effect on newspaper.

Fourth grade students observed how cold fronts react when they meet a warm front.  We discussed 3 cloud types:  stratus, cirrus, and cumulus.  We looked at weather maps showing:  cold fronts, warm fronts, high and low pressure systems, temperature variations, and precipitation.

In fifth grade, students experimented with acids and bases.  We conducted our procedure using and comparing ph levels in water, baking soda solutions, vinegar, and lemon juice.

Seniors:  You must complete and submit the FAFSA to apply for federal student aid for college and for the lottery scholarship HOPE.  Submit Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.  Also, we recommend you apply for your PIN which allows you to sign your FAFSA electronically.  Even if you do not file online a PIN is useful because it can be used to access and to correct your processed FAFSA information later.

Parents, we ask that you please send a note or telephone the office if your child needs to be dismissed early for an appointment.  It is necessary to have this documentation for our records.
